Eat Meat: The Full Plate (Volumes 1 & 2)

This mix was made in conjunction with the artwork from "Jake Keeler at the And Gallery" in St. Paul, MN, March 7th 2003-April 19th 2003. The idea came to me after giving Dibbs the art for Random Volume #2; he wanted to pay me, but I decided a mix by one of the best deejays in the world might be an ideal exchange. So I put together a selection of music, movie samples, and tape recordings of my friends at their best and worst that I had been secretly stock piling for the past 4-6 years. So what you're hearing is shit that is CRUCIAL to the art I make; the music, the b-movies, the stories, and the friends that have had an influence on me over the years. Needless to say, when I first heard Turntable Scientifics by Dibbs many years ago, I thought to myself, "This is my music, this is the musical equivalent to my art, I've gotta do a cover for this guy some day... maybe even get him to mix something for me." No lie, I really thought that, and today it's a reality. I've made several attempts to create an audio companion to my art over the years, but this mix is a perfect fit, a healthy relationship between the visual and audio. From ape-shit manipulation to straight-forward songs to drunk rambling, this mix reflects many of the formal qualities of my artwork. On this mix, Dibbs is flipping the usual "got the music, now i need a cover" mentality.
Dibbs is at the top of my list of musicians/artists/individuals. He is also one of very few people, including myself, that deals with the marriage of uban culture (hip hop) and rural culture (heavy metal- white trash) in his own artistic endeavors. I gave him a tape and a list of music, but also gave complete artistic license on how to mix/arrange them. Aside from a handful of conversations about the mix, Dibbs just did his thing, making a mix he liked as much as I would.
The Eat Meat Mix: A project between two creative people with similar concepts and ideas running through their respective work. So i hope you like this shit, and I hope you get a chance to view my work while listening to this mix on a good pair of headphones at full volume.
